  • Descrição: The Bible is not normally thought of in terms of public relations (PR). In fact, many Christians would, at the least, cringe at the thought of Holy Scripture being read in relation to PR and, at a higher level of outrage, seek to disparage the words of anyone who deemed the thought appropriate. However, if one defines PR as the attempt to communicate one's message to the intended audience in the most effective way, the Bible would most definitely be a highly effective PR document, and God would be considered the best of all possible PR experts. After all, the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ is the message of the Bible. It is this plan of salvation that reveals God's intent to give his creatures the best of everything, not the least of which is eternal life - 'Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?' (Romans 8:32, New Living Translation). In his perfect wisdom, God chose men and women to help deliver his message and recorded those efforts in the pages of Scripture. The Apostle Paul could be considered one of the best examples of God's choices to be a PR man for the gospel. Through Paul's training in the Old Testament Scripture, his experience with another of God's PR men (Stephen) and with Jesus Christ Himself, and then by taking the message on his travels throughout much of the Roman Empire, Paul displayed basic PR principles and actions with a number of different audiences. R.E. Brown notes that, 'Paul played the [PR] roles of writer-technician, liaison, manager, and strategist.'[1] Most importantly, Paul was an innovator in the burgeoning field of Christian evangelism and apologetics, a message of offense to Jews and nonsense to everyone else (1 Corinthians 1:23). It would require all the skills of an accomplished 'pitchman' to sell the message of the cross.
