  • Descrição: Objective: to analyze the concept epistemologically depression and submit it. Method: this is about a bibliographical study, conducted through the bibliographic database indexed by BIREME and treat an epistemological search extended search on the books of the area. The findings were described and then analyzed Minayo. Results: in the present study, there was a correlation between the words: sadness, lethargy, negativity, disgust, banzo, low self-esteem and depression, with the state of extreme psychological disorder in which the individual is when you're depressed. This condition results in loss of mental health professionals that is the essence of care as a work tool. Conclusion: the analysis of the concept of depression fostered a better understanding of the term; allowed to know their use in different areas to realize the dynamics of the disease process and that it changes the cognition of human beings in relation to the environment. It is necessary and, therefore, with the development of empirical studies of depression in professionals who attend to the other, the maintenance or restoration of health
