In the remaining chapters he concentrates on specific minority constituencies. [...]in Ch. 3 Corson discusses aboriginal or indigenous populations and, in Ch. 4, he addresses himself to the structural location of `immigrant girls' (rather loosely formulated seemingly to include girls from minority ethnic cultures). The book's focus is thus equality and social justice and the issues with which Corson deals are ethnicity, social class, `race', gender and language. With respect to the first point, the series editors, Andy Hargreaves and Ivor Goodson, inform us in their Preface that `society is moving into a special historical moment [post-modernity]' and that this is an `increasingly inescapable reality' (p. ix), while the author himself seems so sure that this is the case that his first `discussion starter' in the opening chapter begins with the question `what characteristics distinguish the postmodern world from what went before it?' (p. 23) (usefully, a number of these `discussion starters' are provided at the end of each chapter).
