  • Descrição: This book contains the histological classification of odontogenic tumours, jaw cysts and allied lesions developed under the auspices of the World Health Organization International Reference Centre for the Histological Definition and Classification of Odontogenic Tumours and Allied Lesions at the Department of Oral Pathology, Royal Dental College, Copenhagen, Denmark. This book also contains color plates of representative tumours. These color plates are available as color transparencies intended for teaching purposes. The classification of these tumours appears to be based in part on the direct relationship between an atypical osteoid-like tissue and the odontogenic epithelium which indicates that the material isdysplastic dentine. The scope of the classification of these tumours includes: neoplasms and jaw cysts arising from the odontogenic apparatus, distinctive jaw lesions of uncertain status, and certain tumours, tumour-like lesions and soft tissue lesions that are distinctive and difficult to diagnose when occurring in the jaws. The major divisions and subdivisions of the classification scheme are as follows: major division, neoplasms and other tumours related to the odontogenicapparatus, major subdivisions, benign, malignant; major division, neoplasms and other tumours related to bone, major subdivisions osteogenic neoplasms, non-neoplastic bone lesions; major division epithelial cysts, major subdivisions developmental and inflammatory; major division,
unclassified lesions. The text includes explanatory notes for each class of tumours. Because many of these tumours are intraosseous, radiographs are provided when considered essential to the identification and classification of a tumour
