  • Descrição: Jorge Ibargüengoitia is one of the most prominent writers in 20th-century Mexican literature. This study provides an analysis of his narrative in the work Dos Crímenes. The primary objective is to elucidate how the author constructs his narrative threads through the use of irony, which becomes a recurrent tool in his style. To accomplish this, it is proposed that Ibargüengoitia employs different types of irony: verbal, substantive, syntactic, and situational. These types of irony appear throughout the novel, creating a narrative in which the reader, as the recipient, can encounter various meanings and interpretive levels. Furthermore, as a result, we develop the conceptualization that irony serves an aesthetic, communicative, and humoristic function in reader interpretation, rooted in an interplay of creation and reading between the author and the reader.
