  • Descrição: The Merriam- Webster Online Dictionary defines research as "studiousinquiry or examination; especially: investigation or experimentation aimedat the discovery and interpretation of facts, revision of accepted theoriesor laws in the light of new facts, or practical application of such new orrevised theories or laws." I A doctoral dissertation is a document which issubmitted by the author where he/she presents his/her research and find-ings in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctorof Philosophy. In North American countries, the word dissertation isgenerally used whereas in European and some other countries the termthesis is generally used for doctoral research work. "Ihe present bibliographycomprises research produced as doctoral dissertations and doctoral thesesdealing with library cataloging, classification, and metadata. An attempthas been made to cover all the aspects of these topics so as to match thecoverage of this bibliography with the scope of the journal, CatalogingClassification Quarterly. Topics include but are not limited to: descriptivecataloging, classification and subject access, use and usability issues (relatedto bibliographic data, authority data, the catalog or other discovery plat-form), education and training for cataloging and classification, the inter-nationalization of cataloging, the management of cataloging and relatedfunctions, the use of bibliographic or authority data by systems outsidethe online public access catalog (OPAC), online retrieval, metadata stan-dards, and cataloging related to specific materials or processes (such asdigital resources, archives, special collections, maps and other cartographicand spatial materials, or preservation).
