Descrição: This article inserts itself in the Latin American cultural studies, discussing the artisan woman immerse in her local cultural scenario. We discuss feminine work and the process of handicraft making through the ambivalent lenses of occidental culture. More specifically, in the Brazilian scenery, where the craftwork as an occupation has historically been a feminine activity, we identify ambiguous sociocultural conceptions of value differentiation both in terms of manual and intellectual work, mens and women's activities. We focus on the experience of some women artisans of Bichinho/Prados-MG, trying to understand the trajectory and the meaning they give to their trade through the lenses of daily life.
