Descrição:
François de Paule Latapie played a massive part in the promulgation of Whately through Europe. He was a botanist who learned from the philosopher Montesquieu at Labrède, where there may have been something of an English park. Montesquieu had been in England in 1729–30, immediately following Voltaire, and both men absorbed ideas of the English constitution to the extent of wishing to copy it in France. Latapie accompanied Montesquieu’s son to Italy and came to England in 1770, visiting Stowe and Blenheim, among other places.
