  • Descrição: Optical fibers are becoming preferred materials for on-board, data-transfer applications in aircraft. Embedded fiber sensors can extract multiparameter information during the curing process of composite materials. Fiber sensors have also demonstrated the ability to measure strain in structural components, and may be used to monitor structural vibration and damage to a structure. Embedded fiber optic sensors are part of the smart structures and skins concept. Stand-alone sensors have been developed for measuring pressure and temperature in aircraft and the tools for a fiber-sensor-based smart structure exist. 7 ref.--R.A.C.
