  • Descrição: Summary The bronchoscopy is an important tool in diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of broncho-pulmonary diseases of child and adolescent. Since 1955 the author has performed about 7000 bronchoscopies in childhood and adolescence using barbiturate- or Ketanest ® -Succinyl-analgesia. Indications may be divided into three main groups: 1. foreign body aspiration, 2. tuberculosis, 3. bronchopulmonary and endothoracic diseases of other origin. About 75% of all tracheal-bronchial foreign bodies occur in the preschool-agegroup. The slightest suspicion makes the procedure necessary. Eighteen out of 24 children had aspirated vegetal foreign bodies. At school sanatorium in Wangen/Allgäu since 1960 nearly 3000 children and adolescents with tuberculosis did undergo bronchoscopy. Perforations of bronchial lymph nodes were found in 34% of schoolchildren and 25% of adolescents with primary tuberculosis. After removal of granulations and suction of necrotic material the lymphadenous bronchial fistula with an X-ray solid catheter may be probed and visualized by X-ray contrast medium (Aqua-Dionosil). The third group of broncho-pulmonary and the endothoracic diseases is mainly seen by the endoscopist in the general children's hospital. They may be divided into seven subgroups.
