  • Descrição: An analysis of translators' commentary written by four translators of writings of Jacques Derrida into English - John P. Leavey, Jr. (1989 & 1994); C. Leone (1997); E. Prenowitz (1996); & Gayatri Spivak (1974 [1997]) - reflects the translators' appropriation of deconstruction in the process of explaining & justifying their translations. It is hypothesized that contamination & reciprocity are both inevitable between Derrida's French & the translators' English; two manifestations of translation in deconstruction are the related notions of relevant translation, or the translator's proclamation of faith, & reciprocal translation, which presents a double bind, simultaneously admitting & denying translatability in a perpetually self-deconstructing movement that constantly attempts to reconcile translation with the untranslatable. 15 References.
