The 2022 U.S. midterm election results lent credibility to a theory that has been suggested for a long time: Polling data, while not completely meaningless, is definitely not something to rely on exclusively in election predictions (or, a lot of the time, to rely on for anything else). During the week leading up to the election, a much-hyped "red tsunami" had Republicans thumping their chests and Democrats either scratching their heads or hunched over in fear. Ultimately, however, the highly touted GOP tidal wave sweep of state gubernatorial and federal House and Senate races was more of a ripple at best.
