  • Descrição: An examination & comparison of the products of Italian architects in the colonies of Libya & Ethiopia, built during the fascist era. The ideological setting is explored in a discussion of the claims & justifications of the colonial expansionist movement, & the debates of the day about meaning & form of fascist architecture are recounted. Colonial architecture is described in three periods: 1923-1928, when architectural discourse was dominated by the themes of archeology & architectural history; 1928-1936, during which a gradual shift to an interest in planning took place; & 1937-1943, when questions of colonial urbanism predominated. 22 Figures, 42 References.
