  • Descrição: This paper aims to review and examine the theoretical and ideological models by means of which the discourse on Catalan postmodern architecture was constructed. The focus is on the analysis of the texts produced by Catalan theorist de Solà- Morales, who as of the second half of the eighties was the one most engaged in presenting Catalan architecture as a specific way of architectural practice, which is as such distinguished from the other postmodern tendencies. Given that he was well versed in the concept of weak thought (il pensiero debole) - developed by his peer, Italian philosopher of hermeneutic-nihilistic provenance Vattimo - de Solà-Morales continuously implemented and introduced the ideas of the weak thought in the framework of his own architectural theorizations. In this manner, Catalan architecture acquired the status of being an architectural derivate of the weak thought, from which de Solà-Morales will soon develop the well known concept of weak architecture. The aim of this paper is to explore the possible ideological motifs of de Solà-Morales's orientation towards the weak thought as a theoretical model. In this sense, Catalan architecture can be placed in the center of the dynamic relation on whose one end sits the appropriation of a philosophical-theoretical view, and on the other an aspiration to insistence on the Catalan national identity. Reduction and instrumentalization of a theory in favor of ideological implications lead to a situation in which the main motifs of the weak thought have been let down.
