Descrição: The paper presents the range of the effect of liming and fertilizer application with sulfur on the basic indexes of soil acidity. Liming, especially in a higher dose caused an increase of the content of a sum of exchangeable alkaline ions and a drop of the value of hydrolytic acidity. As a consequence, the relations between calcium and hydrogen ions in the soil sorptive complex approached optimum values. An increase in the proportion of exchangeable calcium was, however, accompanied by a decrease in the proportion of potassium ions, and mainly magnesium. The content of movable aluminium in the soil also decreased in the objects where liming on the level of Ca2 approached the level of trace elements of approximately 0.3-1.2 mmol/kg. Such a quantity does not cause a negative effect on the growth and development of plants, even those that are sensitive to this element. The soil reaction was most affected by the calcium dose. In a series limed with a higher quantity of CaCO3(Ca2) it changes from very to lightly acidic, which is considered optimum for most cultivated plants. Fertilization with sulfur in the form Na2SO4 had a remarkably smaller influence on the changes of the studied physico-chemical and chemical properties of the soils, and their direction was reverse as compared to the effect of calcium introduction
