Descrição: This paper is a synthesis of the author's contribution to lithic studies. After initial formation in France, he had to cope in Brazil with new types of raw materials, mainly quartz, and become acquainted with new ways of knapping (as the bipolar technique). He also studied the attributes of stones used without preparation, zoomorphic sculptures of Southern Brazil, pebble industries, stone axes, and other subjects. Another topic commented on is the introduction of micro usewear in Brazil. Finally, from his European and Brazilian experiences, the author proposes some considerations about the variety of lithic industries and the relationship between prehistoric people and stone instruments.
