  • Descrição: The importance is shown of taking into account some parameters like the incident angle, the beam polarization and the refractive index of the materials when dealing with absorption problems of the infrared radiation in laser surface heat treatments of materials. Experiments were carried out with spheroidal graphite cast iron samples, directly from polishing, superficially oxidized or spray coated with a graphite powder. The obtained results are explained, applying the Fresnel equations for reflection and transmission coefficients generalized to absorbing media.
