  • Descrição: Before the Assyrians finally withdrew from Egypt, they had established another vassal prince in the north, Psamtik, son of the slain Necho of Sais, who effectively ruled an area that included Sais, Memphis and Athribis. As Assyrian power in the whole region began to wane, Psamtik’s power by contrast increased within Egypt itself, and he quickly extended his rule to include the whole Delta. Finally, with strong allies holding Middle Egypt on his behalf, Psamtik was able to look southwards: by Year 9 of his taking power, he had become undisputed ruler of the entire land.
