  • Descrição: This is the full and final report of the Hebrew Union College-Harvard Semitic Museum excavations at Gezer in Field V in 1968. The so-called High Place was almost completely cleared by R. A. S. Macalister in 1902–1907, but the publication in 1912 left many unresolved questions. With meticulous modern stratigraphic methods, the scant remaining in situ material was excavated. This unique monument, never previously understood, can now, in all likelihood, be seen to be the center for a periodic covenant-renewal ceremony, dated exclusively to the Middle Bronze IIC (“MB III”) era. This report, by the Gezer Phase I director, draws on the fieldwork of Dr. Anita (Furshpan) Walker, as well as some information in preliminary reports in her Harvard University dissertation.
