  • Descrição: This paper concerns contaminant transport in aquifers comprised of fractured permeable media. In the framework of the present study a simplified method for quantitative evaluation of contaminant transport in fractured permeable media is developed. It is considered that the fracture network is characterized by two length scales, representing parts parallel and perpendicular to the flow direction. In the perpendicular part (transverse) of the fracture network an intensive mixing between the fracture flow and the permeable block flow takes place. Parameters governing this process are defined. It is shown that this process leads to contaminant dispersion. Characteristics of the contaminant transport process are defined and calculated.
