  • Descrição: Future prospects for Au mining in Ghana, helped by more stable economic policies and massive current investment are reviewed. The country has one of the least developed Au belts in the world, but already production surged last year to 844 674 troy oz, a 56% increase on 1990. The Au mining boom results from easing of restrictive investment laws and new incentives in mining, together with a radical economic overhaul and a flexible approach to foreign investors. The giant Ashanti Goldfields Corporation has increased production by 42% compared to 1990. The recent Billiton Bogusa and the Teberebie Goldfields projects have each achieved good production figures. Many other projects and expansion of resources involving foreign participation are reported on.
