  • Descrição: The Concrete Structure of the Year competition was organised for the 35th time. The annual prize is awarded to a construction project that best represents Finnish concrete construction. The purpose of the competition is to increase knowledge of and promote Finnish concrete architecture, technology and construction. The competition is organised by Betonitieto Oy. Helsinki Court House won the award of the Concrete Structure of the Year 2004 for skilled architectural and structural design, in which the high quality and the life cycle durable use of concrete together with expert realisation have created an elegant and vivid entity The transformation of an old industrial warehouse of Alko into an architectural realisation meeting high international standards is an example of how skilled design can preserve the building art of the industrial estate and how a new, visually attractive, state-of-the-art office block can be created showing respect to the old values. Concrete has been used in a versatile manner in the life cycle durable frame structures, which in the interior premises have been left visible. Concrete structures and surfaces play a significant role in the interior architecture of the building and in producing a unique atmosphere. Concrete creates a harmonious contrast with the rest of the interior elements.
