  • Descrição: The article criticizes the VET-programmes -- which are organized according to the dual principle -- for their lack of focus on teaching for transfer, which includes teaching the apprentices to perceive the coherence between the parts of the training taking place in school & workplace respectively. In the school-based parts of the programmes it is necessary to make explicit what the transfer & application of knowledge means. By categorizing practice situations & distinguishing between knowledge as a direction for performance & a frame for understanding & interpreting, it is argued that the apprentices differentiate the application of knowledge to the situations at hand. In the article, the argument is exemplified by an empirical study of transfer in the VET-programme for ambulance men. In relation to the practice situations, the function of the school-based parts of programme is specified. 28 References. Adapted from the source document.
