  • Descrição: For its part, the New York Cosmos, as part of the second-tier North American Soccer League, are hoping that a less restrictive ownership structure (as opposed to MLS, which controls much of its teams' business) will help it capitalize on the storied history of its predecessor of the same name, which brought the legendary Pete to New York and sold out Giants Stadium in 1977. Major League Soccer has done much to drive the growth of soccer nationwide, along with a consistent men's national team, which just recently won the Gold Cup (a competition between national teams in North and Central America and the Caribbean) and a No. 1 worldwide women's national team and a new women's professional league.
