In a human experiment designed to study the metabolic pathways of plutonium, two scientists inhaled
nitrates
of plutonium and the movement of the plutonium through the men was closely monitored. The importance of the experiment is that inhalation is much more representative of how people would take in plutonium following an accidental release.
