• Descrição: We review the work that has been done on the modification of polylactic acid by irradiation methods including low-temperature plasma treatment, electron-beam irradiation, and ion implantation. The main features of the synthesis and properties of polylactic acid are described. We summarize the technical equipment used for surface treatment of polylactic acid, and changes in the chemical structure and functional properties are induced in this way. The research results of the physicochemical, mechanical and biological properties of polylactic acid modified by high-energy methods are presented.
