Description:
The 10,10'-dimethyl-9,9'-biacridylidene impreganated film badge dosimeters developed here provides a simple and selective method for the determination of ambient ozone exposure. Interferences from nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide are less than 1%. In its final form the monitoring device costs $0.50 to produce and analyze, is durable, and has a size and weight comparable to that of a radiation dosimeter. When the device was tested over times ranging from 5 to 400 min, it exhibits a linear dynamic range from 0.63 x 10/sup -6/ to 42 x 10/sup -6/ atm min. The response of the device is linear with the square root of time. Therefore, a model can be used to calculate the ozone dose from the response of the device. The results are within 13% of those from UV photometry and have a 9% relative standard deviation. The response of the device is insensitive to wind velocity, humidity, and temperature within the ranges measured. 14 references, 2 figures, 2 tables.
